CIS Mentor
Job Description
Communities in Schools is a stay-in-school program which connects students at-risk of dropping out to needed community resources. As a mentor for CIS of the Permian Basin you will encourage a student in their education and increase their likeliness to stay in school through support, guidance, and friendship.
Mentor responsibilities:
- Develop a relationship with a mentee to be maintained throughout the school year
- Attend a mentor orientation/training session prior to being placed with a mentee
- Meet with the mentee for a minimum of three hours per month at a location agreed upon by CIS, the mentee, and the mentor.
- Develop a caring relationship with your mentee by listening to him, discussing your life experiences with her, encouraging/advising him, and working with her to help her accomplish her goals.
- Understand and follow rules of confidentiality in regards to your mentee
- Arrive on time for all meetings. Let your mentee know if you will have to miss a meeting, and reschedule meetings that had to be cancelled.
- Report information to CIS regarding the interactions between you and your mentee.
Eligibility requirements:
- Must be able to pass a school background check
- Must be able to pass a CIS background check
- Must be able to meet with student according to the above guidelines for the rest of the school year
